Abstract
The article proves that Katya Petrovskaya’s novel “Maybe Esther” reflects the important features of the literature of the 2000s: interpretation of the cultural crisis, new understanding of history, and the search for cultural identity by the young generation of writers. These features are examined through the prism of the central theme of trauma. It is proved that trauma is investigated by the writer in the following perspectives: historical (totalitarian, catastrophic aspects), fate of the family, worldview of different generations, existential.
Keywords: trauma, memory, transitional thinking, “generation of the 1990s”, genre synthesis, cultural identity.
