Abstract
The article deals with the current state of the theory of music therapy in the People’s Republic of China. Two main directions in the theory of music therapy ‑ national-oriented and Western-oriented ‑ are identified and characterised, the advantages and disadvantages of each direction are shown. The conditions under which it is possible to develop an effective model of training specialists in the field of music therapy in the system of higher music education in the People’s Republic of China are defined.
