Abstract
This study explores the impact of machine translation tools, specifically SDL Trados and MemoQ, on the practice of simultaneous interpreting. Focusing on various interpreting scenarios, it assesses the effectiveness of these tools in enhancing interpreters’ efficiency and accuracy. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining experimental tasks, surveys, and case studies, to provide a comprehensive analysis. The findings reveal that while machine translation significantly improves performance in technical contexts, its effectiveness is notably context-dependent, especially in culturally nuanced dialogues. The study also highlights the potential of machine translation as a preparatory aid rather than a standalone solution for real-time interpreting. Implications for training and operational strategies in the interpreting profession are discussed, along with the need for a balanced integration of human expertise and technological assistance.
